Services

The Commission is an independent statutory body established under the Legal Profession Act 2004. Receives and deals with complaints about the conduct of legal practitioners and law practice employees. The Commissioner is responsible for ensuring complaints are dealt with thoroughly, fairly and transparently. The Legal Services Commission commenced on 1 July 2004. Before then, the Queensland Law Society dealt with complaints about solicitors, and the Bar Association of Queensland dealt with complaints about barristers. Receives all complaints about the conduct of legal practitioners and law practice employees. Mediates consumer disputes and investigates conduct complaints. The Commissioner can also initiate an investigation of his own accord in cases of possible unsatisfactory professional conduct or professional misconduct. Complaints received are either handled by the Commission or referred to the Queensland Law Society or Bar Association of Queensland for mediation or investigation.
