Mission Australia - Going Places - Cairns Women's support service
Services
A Queensland Government-funded program, which was launched in November 2011, Going Places offers housing assistance to single men and women, young people, couples and families experiencing chronic homelessness. They may be sleeping rough or accessing crisis accommodation or other temporary living situations. The program has a ?housing-first? approach, which means the first priority is to safely house the person or family. In most cases, the circumstances that have led to their homelessness are complex and people need a range of support services to help them address issues including unemployment, poverty, mental illness, drug and alcohol abuse and family breakdown. For this reason, clients are then given wrap-around support to achieve long-term lifestyle changes, which increases their chances of remaining in stable housing. This support includes counselling and helping people to gain basic life skills, as well as engage in education and employment.
