Tagalaka rangers work from their base in Croydon to look after Tagalaka native title area. Tagalaka Country covers various lands in the Gulf Savannah region around the townships of Croydon, Normanton and East Hayden.
Tagalaka rangers work includes:
- early season burning, incorporating cultural burn techniques in fire management of Littleton National Park, in partnership with Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS)
- plant health checks, with QPWS botanists, and strategic management of weeds in Littleton National Park around fire breaks and cultural sites
- management of the invasive Neem tree on Tagalaka reserve
- strategic feral pig trapping in priority areas across Littleton National Park, in partnership with QPWS
- monitoring of freshwater turtle populations and maintenance of turtle protection fences in Littleton National Park
- monitoring, protection and rehabilitation of cultural sites in Littleton National Park, and stations such as Esmeralda and Alehvale, as identified in the Tagalaka Cultural Mapping report
- school engagement activities and on-country activities for cultural knowledge transfer and sharing with children and wider community.
