The Kombumerri rangers care for country within the Guanaba Indigenous Protected Area (IPA), and the hinterland of the Gold Coast, north to the Coomera River, south to the Tweed River and west to the Hinterlands.
Kombumerri rangers’ work includes:·
- monitoring water quality and waterway health within Guanaba IPA
- monitoring and managing weeds within Guanaba IPA, including cats claw creeper, lantana, and tree creeping vines, to protect koala habitat, and on private property and with community groups within Kombumerri country
- monitoring invasive animals including cane toads, cats, dogs, deer and foxes, and participating in cane toad control programs
- participating in Wildcare program to rescue and rehabilitate native fauna, including koalas
- undertaking native fauna and flora surveys
- restoring and revegetating koala habitat with key partners
- wildfire mitigation and reinvigoration of traditional fire knowledge and practice
- identifying, protecting and maintaining cultural sites, including elevating awareness of cultural values
- educating the community, through community and school groups and events, to increase recognition of the Gold Coast's cultural history and living culture
