The Balngarrawarra rangers are actively engaged in sustainable natural resource management practices to maintain the cultural and environmental values of country.
Key activities include:
- conservation of rock art sites, including through managing surrounding vegetation and reducing fire risk through mosaic burns
- fire management for healthy country incorporating traditional knowledge and other ‘best-practice’ guidelines
- feral animal management and cattle removal to protect sensitive and important ecosystems and cultural sites
- baseline fauna and flora surveys
- management and control of rubbervine and other priority weed species
- soil conservation works to reduce sediment loads in the Normanby River and Great Barrier Reef Marine Park.
