Report area
The area covered by the report can be specified one of three ways:
- selected area, e.g. national park, state forest or LGA
- defined area bounded by coordinates
- specified point, set by central coordinates.
Selected area
Select one protected area, forestry area or local government area (LGA) from the relevant drop list.
- Protected areas
The protected areas are the national parks, conservation parks and resources reserves of Queensland, gazetted under the Nature Conservation Act 1992. - Forestry areas
The forestry areas are the state forests and timber reserves of Queensland, gazetted under the Forestry Act 1959. - Local government areas
The local government areas are the shire councils, city councils and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities of Queensland.
Defined area
Provide 2 pairs of latitudes and longitudes for each wildlife search.
The coordinate pairs relate to the top right corner and the bottom left corner of a bounding box for your area of interest.
Latitude fields accept decimal degrees that occur within Queensland (i.e. -9 to -30) as a 2-digit integer with up to 4 decimal places (e.g. -29.4125).
Longitude fields accept decimal degrees that occur with Queensland (i.e. 138 to 156) as a 3-digit integer with up to 4 decimal places (e.g. 154.5086).
The maximum size of the bounding box that can be searched is 1 degree. The minimum size of the bounding box that can be provided is 0.02 degrees.
Coordinates for report areas can be determined using the Queensland Globe.
Specified point
Provide 1 latitude, 1 longitude and a distance for each wildlife search.
Latitude boxes are formatted to accept decimal degrees that occur within Queensland (i.e. -9 to -30) as a 2-digit integer with up to 4 decimal places (e.g. -29.4125).
Longitude boxes accept decimal degrees that occur within Queensland (i.e. 138 to 156) as a 3-digit integer with up to 4 decimal places (e.g. 154.5086).
The maximum distance that can be searched is 100km, while the minimum distance is 1km.
Coordinates for locations (street address, lot and plan and localities) can be determined using the Queensland Globe.
Report data
Species
Select either animals or plants (and other non-animals such as fungi etc.) unless you wish to have a list of all the wildlife recorded for the defined area.
The WildNet database currently only contains records of:
- plants (including fungi, bacteria, chromists and protozoans)
- mammals
- birds
- reptiles
- amphibians
- freshwater fish
- cartilaginous marine fish (sharks and rays)
- butterflies
- other priority invertebrates and fish (such as exotic ants and species listed as threatened under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999.
Type
Select native or introduced unless you wish to have a list of all wildlife recorded for the defined area.
Native species are those that naturally occur in Queensland.
Introduced species are those that naturally occur interstate or overseas but have naturalised and now occur in Queensland in the wild.
Status
Select threatened and near threatened to obtain a list of species that are currently listed as threatened or near threatened under the Nature Conservation Act 1992.
Threatened and near-threatened species include those listed as extinct, extinct in the wild, critically endangered, endangered, vulnerable or near-threatened wildlife.
The any status option will list all of the wildlife recorded for the defined area, including threatened and near threatened, special least concern, least concern and unprotected species, including introduced species.
If you require a list of species listed as threatened under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 you need to select any status.
Records
Select confirmed records or specimen-backed records unless you wish to have a list derived from all of the records for the defined area.
Confirmed records includes records that have been confirmed or verified by an expert, or that have been collected and retained.
Specimen-backed records include only those records that are specimen backed and generally stored in a curated collection such as a museum or herbarium.
Date
The WildNet database contains historical records from early European visits to Queensland in the 1700s. To obtain a species list based only on recent records, select more recent records (only records since 1980).
Report delivery and output
Output
PDF file generates a file that is suitable for printing.
Text file (tab delimited) generates a file that can be formatted by the user using software such as Microsoft Excel.
