Primary and related victims

People affected by violence

Some victims of violence can use this form to apply for financial assistance. We call these people primary victims.

A primary victim is a person who was injured as a direct result of acts of violence.

Acts of violence include (but aren’t limited to):

  • physical assaults
  • sexual offences
  • domestic and family violence
  • child abuse.

If you were injured by acts of violence committed in Queensland, you can use this form to apply for a recognition payment and/or help to pay your recovery expenses.

People affected by homicide

Some relatives of a person who has died by homicide in Queensland can use this form to apply for financial assistance. We call these people related victims.

A related victim includes:

  • the deceased person’s spouse, partner, parent, child or sibling (by law, Aboriginal tradition or Island custom)
  • a person who was entirely or substantially dependent  on the deceased person’s income at the time of their death.

In this application, homicide includes, but isn’t limited to:

  • murder
  • manslaughter
  • dangerous operation of a motor vehicle or motor vessel causing death.

If you’re a related victim and you had a close personal relationship with the deceased person at the time of their death, you can use this form to apply for a distress payment and help to pay your recovery expenses.

Cultural acknowledgement

We pay our respects to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ancestors of this land, their spirits and their legacy. The foundations laid by these ancestors—our First Nations peoples—give strength, inspiration and courage to current and future generations towards creating a better Queensland.
