Executive officers and board or committee member blue card requirements
If you are an executive officer or board/committee member in an organisation that works with children, you must have a blue card before starting.
This applies to anyone involved in managing the organisation, no matter their job title. Even if you live interstate but work for a Queensland organisation that delivers childcare services, you still need a blue card.
Business Operators
Some executive officers or board/committee members are also considered ‘business operators’ based on the services their organisation provides. This includes people like P&C executives or board members of sporting clubs. Business operators have specific obligations under the blue card system.
Organisations providing multiple services
If an organisation provides more than one type of child-related service (like licensed care, education, or health, counselling and support services), board members are business operators for all those service categories. So, when applying for a blue card, they must list all the services the organisation provides.
Linking to a governing body
In certain cases, blue cards of executive officers or board/committee members are automatically linked to a governing or peak body. For example:
- licensed care service link to the Department of Child Safety, Seniors and Disability Services
- education and care service link to the Office of Early Childhood Education and Care
- non-state school link to the non-state school accreditation board.
If a blue card is suspended or cancelled, the governing body is told to make sure the person stops working.
Sharing blue card details
Once you get your blue card, you must share your details with the organisation so they can add them to their employee register.
