Blue cards for security providers
Security providers who work in child-related regulated environments for more than 7 days in a calendar year must have a blue card. However, not all environments where children are present require a person to hold a blue card, such as a security provider at a shopping centre.
Security providers may need a blue card if working in:
- Residential facilities such as working at a youth shelter while children are present.
- Education and care service such as an early learning or childcare centre during the hours of operation.
- Churches, clubs and associations such as working through Schoolies week.
- School boarding facilities, such as monitoring the grounds and dormitory.
Business owners and employers must ensure they develop and implement a child and youth risk management strategy to comply with their obligations.
