Volunteer at a JPs in the Community site

Use this form to let us know that you would like to volunteer your Justice of the Peace (JP) or Commissioner for Declarations (Cdec) services at one of our JPs in the Community signing sites.

You can also use this form to be mentored by an experienced volunteer JP or Cdec.

Benefits of volunteering

Volunteering as a JP or Cdec offers a range of benefits including:

  • community involvement
  • personal growth
  • professional networking
  • a sense of duty to the public
  • personal fulfillment.

Volunteering in your local community allows you to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others by providing a free, convenient and professional witnessing service, while developing valuable skills and connections of your own.

Volunteering your time and expertise as a JP or Cdec helps ensure that essential witnessing processes are carried out efficiently and effectively, benefiting both individuals and organisations.

Volunteering will enhance your witnessing knowledge, communication skills and problem-solving abilities. Because JPs often deal with diverse individuals from different backgrounds, it also fosters cultural understanding and empathy.

Lastly, volunteering as a JP can bring a deep sense of fulfillment and satisfaction. Knowing your efforts directly contribute to helping others and improving access to justice is very rewarding and can enhance your overall wellbeing.

Mentoring

The JPs in the Community Program offers valuable mentoring opportunities for newly appointed and existing JPs and Cdecs who are seeking to gain confidence in witnessing documents.

Mentoring within the program also brings several benefits:

  • provides personalised guidance and support from experienced JPs and Cdecs who have practical knowledge and insights to share
  • mentors can offer advice, answer questions and help mentees navigate through the complexities of witnessing documents, accelerating their learning process
  • fosters a sense of community and camaraderie among JPs and Cdecs, allowing them to connect with like-minded individuals who share similar experiences and challenges—this network can serve as an ongoing support system beyond the mentoring relationship
  • boosts  mentees' confidence, as they receive constructive feedback and reassurance from experienced mentors—this confidence translates into more efficient and accurate document witnessing, benefiting both the JPs and Cdecs themselves and the individuals relying on their services.

Overall, mentoring in the JPs in the Community Program plays a vital role in developing the skills, knowledge, and confidence of JPs and Cdecs, enhancing their effectiveness in fulfilling their important roles within the community.
