2023–24 highlights
Over 2023–24, the Office for Youth engaged with 2,093 young Queenslanders through Speak OUT events. These events provided a platform for young people to influence government decision-making by raising issues and discussing topics that matter most to them.
Speak OUTs were held in various formats, including stalls at youth events like Schoolies and University O-Weeks, as well as in-person workshops and online discussions. Some events directly involved other Queensland Government agencies to facilitate the development of specific policies and programs relevant to young people.
Through 2023–24 Speak OUTs, young Queenslanders identified the following top issues of importance:
- Mental health
- Cost of living
- Education and training
Insights gathered from Speak OUTs are often shared with relevant Queensland Government agencies, ensuring young people's unique and diverse perspectives are genuinely considered when developing and implementing policies and programs.
Speak OUT event series
The Speak OUT series is an opportunity for young people to be heard by Queensland Government agencies. Events will be held across Queensland and are an in-person forum lead by young people. To ensure you know when a Speak OUT is coming to your region, subscribe to the Speak OUT mailing list.
