Improved connectivity for regional communities
Our priority is for regional communities to have better, more reliable digital infrastructure so they can connect, grow and prosper.
Connectivity improves people’s access to:
- government
- health and education services
- employment
- innovation
- goods and services.
It also helps regional communities to connect, share, collaborate and innovate.
Inadequate internet connectivity and unreliable mobile networks limit people’s ability to participate in the digital economy and restrict economic growth. For some people, poor digital infrastructure is their single largest concern.
We will work with other tiers of government, telecommunications providers and local communities to bring more reliable, scalable digital infrastructure to Queensland. We’ll explore innovative solutions to connectivity challenges to ensure people, jobs and industries can flourish regardless of location.
Ensuring regional Queensland has access to fast, reliable, and resilient network infrastructure will enable communities to remain safe and connected, and bounce back quickly in times of disaster.
Our 10-year goals
- Greater connectivity to improve people’s access to employment, education, health and social services, and enhance community and social connections.
- Regional businesses can compete locally, nationally and internationally through improved and reliable digital connectivity.
- Queensland has a resilient and diverse system of networks and technologies, keeping Queenslanders safe during times of disaster.

Queensland’s State Infrastructure Strategy will help align infrastructure planning and investment to catalyse Queensland’s social and economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. Digital and innovation opportunities are profiled across the strategy, including embracing a ‘digital by default’ approach to infrastructure.
Improved connectivity for regional communities will also be the key focus of our Queensland Digital Infrastructure Plan. Through this plan, we will continue to work with the Commonwealth Government and telecommunication providers to address mobile blackspots and bridge the digital divide. These tactics will provide access to fast, reliable and resilient network infrastructure across regional and remote Queensland.
