Improving rail access for cattle freight
In July 2022, cattle were loaded at Maxwelton onto a train travelling to Rockhampton for the first time in years, confirming the location is well positioned to support services on the Mount Isa rail line.
Queensland Rail is delivering the upgrade to increase the siding length from 340 to 1200 metres – long enough to accommodate a full-length train and providing greater freight capacity.
A full-length siding will allow other traffic to pass, which increases the overall capacity of the Mount Isa rail line.
