National Carers Week

National Carers Week—12 to 18 October 2025—is about raising awareness, recognising and celebrating the outstanding contribution of the 3 million Australians caring for their family members and friends.

The week is all about:

  • recognising and celebrating all carers in Australia
  • raising awareness across target groups of the valuable role of carers and increasing their knowledge of the issues affecting carers
  • encouraging self-identification among hidden carers and recognition of hidden carers by friends and relatives
  • educating carers about the services and resources available to them and encouraging them to seek help.

Carers make an enormous contribution to those they care for, our communities and our national economy.

In 2022 there were more than 642,200 Queensland carers—as well as many others who do not identify as carers—who provide long-term, unpaid care for a child with additional needs, or someone with a disability or a health condition, or a person who has become frail with age. That means approximately 1 in 9 Queenslanders identify as carers.
