Our theme

The theme for Queensland Women's Week 2025 (QWW) is March Forward. This theme aligns with the UN Women International Women’s Day theme and is a call to action to #MarchForward for a gender equal future.

This theme celebrates the progress made by women who came before us and recognises the work yet to come to achieve gender equality.

International Women’s Day in 2025 will commemorate 30 years since 189 countries unanimously adopted the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action for gender equality in 1995. It also marks 50 years since International Women’s Day was first recognised in Australia in 1975, following the United Nations declaring 1975 International Women’s Year.

While significant strides have been made since these milestones, there is more yet to do.

All of us have a role to play in working together as a community to achieve gender equality. Join us as we March Forward together for a gender equal future.

Themes for past QWWs have included:

  • 2024—Count Her In
  • 2023—Empower her voice; secure her future
  • 2022—Keep Making Noise.
  • 2021—Celebrate our present. Own our future.
  • 2020—Celebrating our diverse community of strong women.
  • 2019—Invest in women. Invest in the future.
  • 2018—Celebrate wellbeing. Everybody wins.
  • 2017—Be involved. Lead the way.
  • 2016—Good for her. Great for us. When women achieve, Queensland succeeds.

International Women's Day theme

Established by the United Nations (UN) in 1975, International Women's Day (IWD) is a time to reflect on progress made, to call for change, and to celebrate acts of courage and determination by ordinary women who have played an extraordinary role in the history of their countries and communities.

In 2025, UN Women will mark IWD with the theme March Forward: It's time to turn promises into progress. Visit the UN Women website to find out more or follow them on social media.
