Pathways to vocational education and training
For international students, the recommended minimum qualification for entry to a Certificate level vocational education and training (VET) course is to have completed the equivalent of an Australian Year 10 qualification in your home country.
If you want to study a Diploma or Advanced Diploma VET course, you may need to have completed the equivalent of an Australian Year 12 qualification in your home country.
Contact your preferred VET provider to see if your overseas qualifications meet the requirements for the course you want to study.
Education agents can also help with this process.
Learning English
Courses require a minimum level of English language skills.
Contact your preferred VET provider to see what English language skills are required for the course you want to study.
English courses are available to help you get the language skills you need.
Recognition of prior learning
You may be eligible for an Education Statement for qualifications you have completed overseas. This may help to gain entry to a course and reduce the amount of time you need to complete it.
Find out more about recognition of prior learning or contact your preferred VET provider to see if they can verify your overseas qualification.
The following organisations may also help you determine if you are eligible for recognition of prior learning:
Recognition of prior learning is a consultative process and it may not be possible to directly match your overseas qualifications with an equivalent Australian qualification. All applications are considered on a case-by-case basis.
Document translation
Any existing qualifications or documents related to your tertiary application will need to be translated into English.
Your education agent can organise this for you.
