BBQ safety
Take care, plan ahead and use the following tips to stay safe around your barbecue:
- Service and maintain your barbecue, including scheduled checks of the hose, connections and gas cylinder pressure
- Check the cylinder for rust or damage and correctly tighten gas connections before lighting
- Position the barbeque on a firm, level base sheltered from the wind and well away from anything flammable like garden sheds, vegetation and fences
- Have a garden hose or other continuous supply of water available at all times
- Ensure the lit barbecue is in the care of a responsible adult
- Never put any flammable liquid on or around a barbeque
- Never use petrol or kerosene to start a barbecue.
- Keep children away from any lit barbeque, lighters or matches
- Use your barbeque in a well-ventilated area to avoid harmful gas fumes.
If your barbecue leaks gas, turn off the cylinder immediately and allow any gas to dissipate.
