Reduce food waste in your community
Reduce food waste in your community
Community action is a powerful way to come up with practical ideas to reduce the amount of food we throw away.
Queensland communities can get involved in food waste initiatives that provide smarter ways to tackle food waste at a local level.
Community gardens and compost hubs
If you can't compost at home, you may be able to take your food waste to a community composting hub. Check with your local council to see if there are any composting hubs in your area and what types of waste they accept.
Grow It Local
Grow It Local brings together Queenslanders with their local communities to promote the importance reducing food waste, promoting a connection with nature and play a role in mitigating climate change.
You can participate in workshops that will inspire you to start growing your own food, participate in community events, and connect with fellow growers.
Research has shown that those who grow their own food tend to value it more and waste less.
Grow It Local provides an opportunity to learn how to grow and cook nutritious food, with access to edible plant seeds and expert gardening advice and it gives you an opportunity to attend composting workshops, where you'll discover how to recycle organic food waste at home.
Join the Grow It Local community today or check if your local council is a partner to get involved.
