Artificial reefs
Artificial reefs are man-made structures designed to promote the flourishing of marine life populations. These reefs attract and sustain a wide diversity of marine life by providing protection from predators, shelter from ocean currents, breeding opportunities and a supply of rich food sources.
Artificial reefs also provide a unique dive experience, attracting divers from around the world.
There are a number of artificial reefs across Queensland. These include:
- Moreton Bay artificial reef
- Great Sandy Marine Park artificial reefs
- Ex-HMAS Brisbane artificial reef
- Ex-HMAS Tobruk—After 34 years of loyal and distinguished service, ex-HMAS Tobruk is destined to eventually become a world-class artificial reef dive site in Great Sandy Marine Park.
