Elimatta project
The proponent for the Elimatta Project is Taroom Coal Pty Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Northern Energy Corporation Limited.
The project is located in the Surat Basin approximately 35km west of the Wandoan township and 380km north-west of Brisbane within the upper catchment of the Fitzroy Basin, approximately 45km upstream of the Dawson River within the Western Downs Regional local authority area. The project is located wholly within Mining Lease Applications 50254, 50270 and 50271 and the real property description boundaries underling the West Surat Link rail and services corridor.
On 15 June 2009, Taroom Coal Pty Ltd initiated the environmental impact statement (EIS) process by application for an Environmental Authority (EA) (Mining Activities) for a Non-code Compliant Level 1 mining project under the Environmental Protection Act 1994 (EP Act). On 26 June 2009 the department, decided that the application would be assessed as a Non-code Compliant Level 1 mining project and an EIS would be required.
The status of the process for the assessment of the EIS for the Elimatta Project is:

- EIS assessment report
The EIS assessment report was issued to Taroom Coal Pty Ltd on 18 July 2014, completing the EIS process under Chapter 3, Part 1 of the EP Act.
On 1 May 2008, the Commonwealth decided (EPBC Referral Number 2008/4130) that the proposed action was not a controlled action under the Commonwealth Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999.
Before the project can proceed, Taroom Coal Pty Ltd will need to obtain an environmental authority for the project under the EP Act.
