Looking after Country Grant program


About the program
The Looking after Country Grant Program provides funding of up to $75,000 to First Nations communities to conserve and manage environmental and cultural heritage on country.
The program supports projects that engage First Nations communities to prepare for and deliver on-ground conservation work on Country and to build organisational capacity to care for Country through strengthened skills, knowledge, and collaborative partnerships.
Project activities funded through the program include (but are not limited to):
- cultural site management
- protected species monitoring and conservation
- revegetation and habitat restoration
- fire management
- erosion control
- inter-generational knowledge exchange on country
- the development and implementation of country management plans.


2024 successful applicants announced
The successful applicants for the 2024 Looking After Country Grant Program have been announced. Seven Indigenous organisations from across Queensland, including Ipswich, Hopevale and Ingham, have been awarded funding totalling $522,972.
The successful applicants are:
- Nyanda Life Limited, $73,700
- Wangan Jagalingou Traditional Owner Aboriginal Corporation, $74,750
- Darrba Land Trust, $74,522
- Mungalla Aboriginal Corporation for Business, $75,000
- Watsonville Aboriginal Corporation, $75,000
- Firesticks Alliance Indigenous Corporation, $75,000
- Jawiyaba Warra Aboriginal Corporation, $75,000.
