The project will focus on fire, weed, feral animals, soil erosion, threatened species and cultural site management, and work towards the eventual establishment of a permanent ranger group in the middle of Cape York.
Project activities will occur at the head of the Palmer-Mitchell River systems; on ground work in this critical area intends to mitigate and stop the further degenerative effects of weeds, feral animals, soil erosion and associated land management, along the entire river system from Bonny Glen to the Gulf of Carpentaria at Kowanyama.
The project will provide Traditional Owners employment and ongoing support to manage their land in an environmentally sustainable way.
The project will continue the extensive survey, control and monitoring programs, with the Traditional Owners carrying out the majority of works.
