Kowanyama water supply infrastructure project
The Queensland Government and Kowanyama Aboriginal Shire Council are delivering this project as part of our commitment to the Closing the Gap national agreement. The Kowanyama water supply infrastructure project will ensure reliable access to clean water for community growth.
Work has begun to upgrade the water supply infrastructure for Kowanyama. Upgrades include:
- review of raw water infrastructure
- improved chemical storage and dosing systems and associated pipework and pumps
- instrumentation and a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system to monitor and control the treatment processes
- review of treated water storage
The project team will consult with all stakeholders throughout the project. They will work closely with the Kowanyama Aboriginal Shire Council and the local community to consider water safety and reliability issues.
