Social groups
Joining a social or community group can help you to feel valued and a part of your local community.
To find a social or community group near you:
- visit one of Queensland’s Indigenous Knowledge Centres. They are a learning and meeting place where you can access the internet and other free services
- contact your local council to find free social and relaxation activities in your area
- join your local library it’s a safe place that provides free access to books, magazines, DVDs and the internet
- visit the Our Community website.
Other community groups providing support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities include:
- children’s playgroups
- Neighbourhood Watch groups
- lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) groups.

Indigenous choirs
The Gondwana National Indigenous Children’s Choir is for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people aged 10 to 25. The choir is free to talented young Indigenous participants. It is committed to singing in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander languages.
