Our team
The Queensland Kidney Transplant Service (QKTS) is a team of dedicated health professionals who work together to provide the highest quality care for both the transplant recipient and the family including:
- Surgeons who perform the transplant and provide surgical care
- Physicians who provide medical care to maximise the function of your new kidney, adjust your medications and treat rejection or other medical conditions that may arise
- Transplant assessment coordinators who ensure all assessments and work-up tests are completed, coordinate transplant clinics and are often the initial point of contact for patients requiring information about transplantation
- Nursing staff that provide specialist nursing care and education for long-term kidney care
- Social Workers and Psychiatrists who together care for the psychological and social impact of the transplant on you and your family. The Social Worker may also be able to provide practical assistance with accommodation, travel and financial matters
- Physiotherapists who provide assistance with deep breathing and exercise after transplant, necessary to help prevent some of the complications of surgery
- Dietitians who provide assistance with adjusting your diet post-transplant
- Pharmacists who provide education and assistance with medications.
