Family members and carers play a crucial role in our community. For many people, looking after a loved one is 'just what you do'. They are mums and dads, sons and daughters, brothers, sisters, grandparents, spouses, friends and neighbours.
Financial support
The Australian Government provides eligible carers with financial assistance when providing daily care to someone with a life-limiting illness.

Respite care
Respite care can give carers a break from the caring role. Respite can be for a few hours or days and may be based at a day centre, residential care facility, or in the home.
Day/overnight respite can be accessed on its own, or through the Commonwealth Home Support Programme.
