Repaying your government home loan

If you have a Queensland Government home loan, you’re required to make regular loan repayments using direct debit.

Direct debit allows us to automatically collect repayments from your bank account when they’re due.

It means you don’t need to remember to make payments, reducing the risk of missed payments and late fees.

If necessary, you can also make mortgage repayments using Post Billpay or BPay.

Setting up a direct debit

To ask us to automatically debit your loan repayments from your bank account:

  1. Complete the Direct debit request form (PDF, 219.9 KB)
  2. Send us the completed form:

Frequency of direct debits

You can choose to have your loan repayments automatically debited from your bank account:

  • weekly (same day each week)
  • fortnightly (same day every 2 weeks)
  • monthly (same date, e.g. 20th of each month; or same day, e.g. third Monday of each month)

If the scheduled payment falls on a weekend or public holiday, the payment will instead be deducted on the following working day.

If the payment falls on the 29th, 30th or 31st and these dates don’t occur in that month, the payment will instead be deducted on the last working day of that month.

Missed direct debit payments

If your direct debit fails because, for example, there isn’t enough money in your bank account, you may be charged a fee of $19.58.

If it fails 3 times in a row, we may cancel your direct debit.

If any payments have been missed or your direct debit has been cancelled, please contact us urgently to discuss a solution.

Changing your direct debit details

You can change:

  • the amount your bank account is directly debited (any decreased amount cannot be less than your minimum monthly instalment amount)
  • the frequency of your direct debits (see options above)
  • your bank account details.

To request any of these changes, you must complete and send us a new Direct debit request form (PDF, 219.9 KB) .

Suspending your direct debits

You can ask us to temporarily suspend your direct debits, for example if you’re ahead on your home loan repayments and need money for other things.

To request a suspension, you must call us at least 2 working days before the next deduction day.

Though your repayments are suspended, you’ll continue to be charged your minimum monthly instalment.

If you end up in arrears, you’ll need to catch up on your repayments later.

Other loan repayment methods

If your direct debit is not set up in time for your first home loan repayment or a direct debit fails, you can make a repayment using one of the following methods.

You can also use these methods whenever you have spare cash and would like to make extra, lump-sum repayments:

Post Billpay

In the payment options letter we originally sent you, you’ll find a Post Billpay barcode.

You can get the code scanned at a participating Australia Post outlet, nominate a repayment amount, and pay it using your debit card or cash.

If you can’t find the letter with the code, let us know and we’ll re-send it.

BPay

In the payment options letter we originally sent you, you’ll find a BPay biller code and reference number.

Using that code and number, you can make a repayment through your phone or internet banking.

If you can’t find the letter with the code, let us know and we’ll re-send it.

Financial hardship assistance

If you’re missing repayments due to financial hardship, please contact us as soon as possible to discuss your options.
