Housing support for employment and education
Employment and Education Housing (EEH) was previously known as the Employment Related Accommodation Program.
The EEH program helps eligible Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples relocate from remote communities to take up employment, education or training in regional centres.
Successful applicants are offered housing support for the length of the employment, education or training course that they are in.
For example, if you are offered 6 months of vocational training, you will have housing support for 6 months.
The program is available in Townsville, Gladstone, Rockhampton, Toowoomba and Cairns.
The properties are generally managed by registered community housing providers. A range of affordable housing options and support is available.
Eligibility for the program
To be eligible for the EEH program, you must:
- be an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person from a Queensland remote Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander community or recently relocated from such a community
- meet social housing eligibility
- provide evidence of either:
- full-time enrolment in an approved course with a TAFE, registered training organisation, high school and/or other education provider or university
- ongoing full-time employment or employment that could lead to a full-time job.
Successful applicants are matched to accommodation that best meets their needs.
Applying for the program
Before you apply, you need to read about how to apply for housing and check your eligibility.
To apply for housing assistance to support your education, training or employment:
- complete the Employment and Education Housing application
- complete the Application for housing assistance
- attach 2 forms of identification and the required supporting documentation
- submit your application to the relevant Housing Service Centre or Community Housing organisation.
