Housing support for First Nations workers and students (Employment and Education Housing program)
If you’re a First Nations person relocating from a remote community to a regional centre to work or study, we may be able to give you housing support.
Our Employment and Education Housing (EEH) program is open to eligible people who are moving to or have recently moved to:
- Gladstone
- Rockhampton
- Toowoomba
- Townsville.
If your application is successful, you can live in the home rented to you for as long as you’re working or studying in the city.
Support you can get
You can access a wide range of support to help you succeed in your new city, including:
- community housing
- life skills training (e.g. budgeting)
- help enrolling children in kindy or school
- referrals to other support services.
Who can apply
To be eligible for the Employment and Education Housing program, you must:
- be a First Nations person in a remote Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander community in Queensland or have recently moved from a remote community
- be moving to, or have recently moved to, Gladstone, Rockhampton, Toowoomba, or Townsville
- meet the social housing eligibility criteria
- provide evidence of:
- full-time enrolment in an approved course with a high school, TAFE, registered training organisation, university, and/or other education provider
or - ongoing full-time employment or employment that could lead to a full-time job.
How to apply
To apply for housing to support your employment, education or training:
- Complete the Employment and Education Housing application (PDF, 692 KB).
- Complete the Application for housing assistance (PDF, 2 MB).
- Attach 2 forms of identification (e.g. birth certificate, passport, driver licence) and the required supporting documentation.
- Submit your applications to a community housing provider or a Housing Service Centre.

If there are no dwellings available
If there are no EEH dwellings available, we’ll help you explore your other housing assistance options based on the details provided in your EEH application.
