Maintenance staff at your home
Information for Queensland public housing tenants
Maintenance staff will always try to contact you before carrying out any maintenance work on your property.
Emergency maintenance
Maintenance staff can enter your property without your permission only if there is an emergency, such as a fire, serious water or gas leak, or storm/flood damage.
If maintenance staff cause any damage while accessing your home in an emergency situation (e.g. broken doors or windows), we repair this damage at no cost to you.
Non-urgent maintenance
Entering the property
For routine maintenance, staff don’t enter your home unless an adult is there.
If you can’t be home when staff arrive, you must arrange for another adult to be there. We will delay the work if no adult is home at the agreed time. Staff will leave a card with details of who to contact to arrange another visit.
Don’t leave keys outside the property (e.g. under mats or pot plants) for safety and security reasons.
Secure all dogs when staff visit your property.
Carrying out the work
Maintenance staff are responsible for carrying out their work in a safe, tidy and efficient manner.
They may need to use your electricity, and there might be some noise from machinery and tools.
Keep children and pets away from the maintenance work, and remove any personal items or belongings so they’re not damaged.
