Pest control
Information for Queensland public housing tenants
Your rental property was professionally treated for pests before you moved in.
Once you move in, you’re responsible for keeping your home free of pests.
We usually don’t provide pest control during your tenancy.
Arranging pest control
If your property needs pest control treatment, you can arrange for a qualified pest control company to treat your home.
You don’t need our approval for this.
If you live in a multi-unit complex, you could find out if other tenants would like to get their home done—you may be able to get a discounted rate.
Paying for pest control
If you arrange pest control treatment, you need to pay for this and any follow-up treatments.
Pest control providers usually offer a warranty covering their work for a period after the treatment. After the warranty expires, you may have to pay for further treatments to keep your home free of pests.
In some severe situations that need more than ordinary professional pest treatment, we may arrange for pest control at our expense. Contact your nearest Housing Service Centre to discuss this.
Treating termites
You are not responsible for treating termites.
If you suspect a problem with termites, call the maintenance number for your nearest Housing Service Centre. Read more about property maintenance.

Non-government-owned public housing
Our agreement with the property owners requires them to undertake pest control once a year. Contact your nearest Housing Service Centre if you are experiencing problems with pests.
