About the program
The Queensland Government and Microsoft have partnered to deliver the First Nations Digital Careers Program. The program is aimed at First Nations people of all age groups who are interested in kickstarting or transitioning to a digital career.
First Nations people with varying levels of digital skills and experience can apply for the program. Participants can study a range of courses and be placed into roles either within Queensland Government, Microsoft, or one of their partner employers. The program has been developed to meet the needs of First Nations people.
What the program offers
Successful applicants receive:
- paid employment in the digital field with flexible work and leave arrangements
- salaries that are above award wages
- a 4-week pre-skilling pathway program to learn the skills needed to move into the workplace
- an opportunity to work with leading employers either within Government or the private sector
- a Certificate III in Information Technology (IT) upon completion of their studies
- on-the-job training, experience and learning
- mentoring, assistance and pastoral care
- continued job opportunities at the end of their traineeship.
Cultural safety will be at the core of the program, with trainees placed into roles with culturally safe employers.

Digital professionals are some of the most in-demand roles in Australia right now. It’s estimated that nationally, an extra 250,000 additional digital workers will be needed by 2025.

Who can apply
To apply you need to meet the following criteria:
- identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, of any age group
- a willingness to learn and an interest in digital (experience in IT or digital roles is not necessary)
- available to start the program from November 2024
- attend studies and a workplace in the nominated location (Brisbane based roles available)
- commitment to finishing the program
- submit the required application documentation.
Roles available this intake
We are currently recruiting for the following:
- various digital trainee officer positions
- 18-month traineeship commencing from November 2024
- study a Certificate III Information Technology (IT)
- Roles located in Brisbane CBD and surrounds
- Roles available with some of Queensland's leading digital industry employers.
