Assessment of child by authorised person
When applying to alter your child's record of sex an authorised person will need to complete part of the application form before you submitted it to us.
They must be a professional who knows your child (not someone seeing them for the first time) and be a developmentally informed practitioner.
You may need to ask the person if they have the required membership or qualifications, for example if you ask your child's speech pathologist or school guidance officer.
A developmentally informed practitioner must be one of the following:
- registered under the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law to practise in their professional field (not a student)
- medical practitioner (doctor)
- psychologist
- occupational therapist
- registered nurse
- midwife
- speech pathologist who is a certified practicing member of The Speech Pathology Association of Australia Limited—includes provisional certified practicing members
- social worker who is a member of the Australian Association of Social Workers Limited
- counsellor or psychotherapist registered on the Australian Register of Counsellors and Psychotherapists
- school guidance officer with full registration under the Education (Queensland College of Teachers) Act 2005 plus one of the following qualifications
- completed a master’s course at a tertiary education institution that includes studies in guidance, counselling, mental health, or psychoeducational assessment
- general or provisional registration in the Register of Psychologists kept by the Psychology Board of Australia
- completed 4 years of a psychology program accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council.
