SPER vehicle immobilisations
If you have not yet paid your enforcement order from the State Penalties Enforcement Registry (SPER) and owe $5,000 or more, we may issue you a notice of our intention to immobilise your vehicle.
If you do not contact us to make payment within 14 days, we may issue an immobilisation warrant, which authorises an enforcement officer to attach a wheel clamp to any vehicle registered in your name (including cars, motorbikes, trailers or caravans).
Any vehicle, whether it is registered by an individual or a company, can be immobilised without permission wherever it is parked, including:
- at your home
- at your work
- in a public place.
We will attach a notice to the front windscreen and the driver's side window, telling you that the vehicle has been immobilised by SPER because of unpaid fines or orders.
The vehicle may be immobilised for up to 14 days. If you don't pay within that period, we may issue a warrant to seize and sell your vehicle. You can pay online or by calling us on 1300 365 635.
We will not immobilise your vehicle if you can prove that it would cause you significant hardship.
