Unlock Queensland’s history: transcribe with us (and AI!)
We are using AI Assist technology for the transcription of the Colonial Secretary’s Correspondence records.
From immigration and land orders to education and traditional owners, these letters reveal a vibrant snapshot of life after Queensland’s separation from New South Wales in 1859.
Our initiative focuses on transcribing handwritten text using advanced AI Assist recognition technology.
Take part in uncovering more of Queensland’s past with THREE ways to transcribe:
- Challenge yourself – you need no AI assistance.
- AI Assist (1860’s letters): Get suggestions as you type.
- NEW! AI Assist + AI Text (1895’s letters): Pre-filled text makes it even easier to correct and complete.
Transcribing these records is not just an exercise in historical preservation; it is a vital step in making our history accessible to all Queenslanders.
Please note that some documents may contain names and terms that are now considered offensive. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander readers are advised that these documents may reference individuals who have passed away.
