Managing your health
Vaccines
Anyone aged 65 years and older is at high risk from influenza and pneumococcal disease. Vaccines for these diseases are free for people in this age group, however you may have to pay for the consultation.
Talk to your doctor to find out more.
Medicines
It is important that you understand your medicines—what you’re taking, why you’re taking them and how they can affect you.
You can phone the Medicines Line for advice on 1300 633 424.
These resources can help you manage your medication:
- search medicine by brand name using Medicine Finder
- getting a Home Medicines Review (HMR)
- keeping a medicines list.
If you need to take medicine with you when you travel, check before you leave what supporting medical documentation you may need.
Aids and equipment
We provide subsidies for aids and equipment, such as:
- communication aids
- continence aids
- daily-living aids
- home oxygen
- medical grade footwear
- mobility aids
- orthoses.
Travelling for treatment
If you need a specialist medical service, and it is unavailable within 50km of your nearest public hospital, you may be eligible to receive a travel subsidy.
