ZOE2 Drives Away with National Award Win

The Department of Transport and Main Roads' (TMR) research prototype Level 4 Cooperative and Automated vehicle, ZOE2, continues to drive the departments’ automation journey in the right direction with TMR receiving the 2019 ITS Australia Automated Vehicle Award.

Each year Intelligent Transport System Australia celebrate the innovation and excellence within the industry. Held on Thursday 21 November in Adelaide, Dennis Walsh, Chief Engineer and Amit Trivedi, Project Lead attended the ITS Australia National Awards 2019 ceremony where the department shared the win in the ‘Automated Vehicle’ category.

“It’s an honour to receive national recognition for the CHAD Pilot which entails our Level 4 Cooperative and Automate vehicle, ZOE2,” Dennis said.

“Cooperative and automated vehicle technology promises unique benefits and has potential to provide a pillar upon which future transportation solutions can be engineered”

“They have the potential to significantly improve road safety outcomes.”

An area of focus of the CHAD pilot is safety and how government can contribute to the safe introduction of automated vehicles on our roads. By working collaboratively with the department's partners from Motor Accident Insurance Commission, Centre for Accident Research and Road Safety - Queensland and iMOVE Cooperative Research Centre, TMR is leading the way with this innovative research.

“Assisting with the build of ZOE2 in France earlier this year was a highlight for me,” Amit said.

“The hands-on training in both the operation and maintenance of the vehicle now ensures I can upskill and knowledge transfer to our stakeholders and industry partners.”
