Vehicles and devices you cannot use on the road
The following non-compliant vehicles and devices are considered unsafe for road use. They cannot be registered or used on a road or road-related area, such as a path, under any circumstances.

Bicycle with an internal combustion engine attached These bicycles have a petrol or diesel motor attached, which is the primary source of power. Because the rider can ride the bike without using the pedals, it is not classed as a bicycle. | |

Illegal moped These vehicles are sometimes sold or hired as a motorised bicycle. Because the motor is the primary source of power, they are not classed as a bicycle. | |
Petrol powered skateboard These devices have a petrol or diesel motor attached, which is the primary source of power. | |
Fat tyre moped These devices are designed purely for on road use, generally have a maximum speed of 32–35km/h, and a more like a motorbike than a scooter. Some are even capable of doing 95km/h. |
