Direct Sunshine Coast Rail Line information hub opens in Caloundra
The Queensland Government is delivering the branch new direct rail connection to the Sunshine Coast, with the project underway and gaining momentum with some key milestones met during August.
Geotechnical investigations started on site between Beerwah and Birtinya. These investigations will help provide more certainty about ground conditions along the corridor.
A Project Information Centre has been opened in the heart of Caloundra, a dedicated space where the community can stay informed, ask questions, and explore the progress of the Direct Sunshine Coast Rail Line.
In the first two weeks, the Project Information Centre has welcomed around 650 visitors, reflecting strong community interest and engagement.
Another major milestone for the project is the calling of tenders for engineering teams and procurement specialists to assist in finalising the reference design and supporting procurement activities for the major works packages.
With funding confirmed for Stage 1 of the project, Beerwah to Caloundra, it’s full steam ahead.
Stage 1 of the Direct Sunshine Coast Rail line will deliver:
- A 19-kilometre link between Beerwah and Caloundra
- An upgraded station at Beerwah
- New stations at Aura and Caloundra
- Park ‘n’ rides and active transport connections
- 2,200 local jobs
- A 45 minute time saving during peak compared to driving.
A progressive approach will see the line ultimately constructed to Birtinya and Maroochydore, delivering 37.8km of track directly connecting rail to the beachside centre of the Sunshine Coast.
