Training
Whether you are an experienced carer or new to the role, everyone can benefit from learning more about being a carer.
All foster carers will complete training prior to their approval and additional focused training during their first year as an approved carer. This training will be provided by your Foster Care and Kinship Care Agency.
While all carers have access to the same training opportunities, there are different training requirements for foster carers and kinship carers.
These needs will be recorded in your learning plan in the Foster Carer Agreement, or Placement Agreement if you are a kinship carer.
Continuous learning opportunities will be provided by your agency that may include connecting you with external training available from a range of providers within the community such as:
- Queensland Foster and Kinship Care (QFKC)
- EVOLVE therapeutic service (contact your local provider)
- Association of Children's Welfare Agencies (ACWA)
- Parentline cyberbullying training for parents and carers.
