Veteran friendly employers

The Australian Government’s Veteran Employment Program supports Australian employers to improve employment outcomes for veterans and be recognised via the Veteran Employment Commitment (VEC).

Joining the VEC means an employer has publicly committed to employing veterans and creating an environment for veterans to perform at their best. They must also demonstrate they have veteran-friendly policies and practices in place to support veteran employment.

Depending on the veteran employment activities they undertake, organisations can be recognised as a ‘Veteran Employment Supporter’, ‘Veteran Friendly Employer’ or a ‘Veteran Employer of Choice’.

Veterans can search for these organisations (Opens in new window) and filter employers by their location, industry, size and veteran employment practices they have in place, such as mentoring programs, employment pathways or veteran-tailored on-boarding processes. If you are a partner, you can also search for organisations who ‘employ partners of serving and ex-serving Australian Defence Force members’.

As a veteran, you can also access information and guidance (Opens in new window) to support your job search, such as:

  • identifying and building your skills
  • finding and getting a job
  • understanding the civilian workplace, or
  • starting your own business.
