Concessions
Veterans may be eligible for Queensland Government concessions to help ease cost of living pressures. Eligibility requirements apply including having the prefix “Q” on the DVA card (e.g. Department of Veterans’ Affairs issued Pensioner Concession Card (PCC), Gold Card–all conditions or White Card–Specific conditions).
Transport concessions
Public transport concessions
In 2024, the Queensland Government implemented 50 cent flat fares permanently on all Translink public transport services across Queensland. This has resulted in considerably improved affordability and accessibility for all customers travelling on Translink bus, train (excluding Airtrain), ferry, tram and on-demand services in South East Queensland and Translink regional buses.
Fifty per cent concession fares are no longer available on Translink services under the permanent 50-cent fare structure – including those previously received by Queensland Veterans who hold a gold or white Veteran Card.
TPI and EDA Gold Card holders must have a TPI/EDA Veteran Travel Card to receive unlimited free travel on approved Translink, qconnect and regional ferry services.
For more information phone 13 12 30 or visit the Translink website.
Queensland Rail Travel
Queensland resident pensioner concession card and DVA Gold Card holders marked War Widow/Widower are eligible for four (4) Queensland pension rail travel entitlements per calendar year to use on long distance Queensland Rail Travel services.
Queensland resident TPI or EDA Gold Card holders who have a Translink TPI/EDA Veteran Travel Card, are eligible for one free return trip each fortnight on long distance Queensland Rail Travel services.
For more information, call 1300 131 722 or visit the Queensland Rail Travel website.
Motor Vehicle Registration
Queensland PCC holders and Veterans receiving at least 70% disability pension or who have at least 50 impairment points, may be eligible for a discount on the registration fee for one vehicle and one boat.
For more information visit the Queensland Government website.
Energy and property concessions
Electricity and gas rebates
PCC or Gold Card (and receive the War Widow/er Pension or special rate TPI pension) holders may be eligible to receive a rebate on electricity and gas. Eligibility criteria apply.
Visit Electricity and gas rebates for more information.
Rates subsidy
PCC or Gold Card holders may be eligible to receive a subsidy of 20% (up to a maximum amount of $200 each year) of the gross rates and charges levied by your local council.
In addition to the state subsidy, a local council may also offer other remissions on rates and charges.
Contact your local council for more information.
Water subsidy
PCC or Gold Card holders may be eligible for a subsidy of up to $120 (maximum) each year off the cost of water access and usage charges for properties in the South East Queensland Water Grid.
Each retailer has its own application process. Visit Water subsidy for information about eligibility and how to apply.
Emergency Management Levy
A 20% pensioner discount of the Emergency Management Levy (EML) is available for their principal place of residence if the owner holds a Commonwealth Pensioner Concession Card (PCC) or a Repatriation Health Card (Gold Card). If a property owner is currently receiving a pensioner discount on the EML, the pensioner discount will automatically be applied to the Class C EML. Eligible property owners should contact their Council to apply for property concessions which would include the EML pensioner discount.
See https://www.fire.qld.gov.au/compliance-and-planning/em-levy for further information.
Recreational fishing license
In Queensland, a recreational fishing license is generally not required, but a "Stocked Impoundment permit" is required.
Veterans may be eligible for a discount if they hold a Queensland Government Seniors Card, Pensioner Concession Card, Health Care Card or a Repatriation Health Care Card (Gold Card).
