Learning support for apprentices and trainees
Every apprentice and trainee is entitled to learning support in Queensland.
Whether you struggle with English, Maths, digital skills or time management, you can get help to succeed in your workplace or classroom.
Types of learning support
Learning support can include:
- English and Maths tutoring
- tailored foundation skills training
- help with exams and assignments
- short courses on time management and organisation skills
- workshops on study skills and exam preparation
- face-to-face help
- tutoring (individual or group).
When to organise learning support
You should ask for support right at the start of your apprenticeship or traineeship so that:
- your needs can be assessed, and proper support can be set up
- your learning needs are listed in your training plan
- your employer and training organisation have time to adjust.
How your training organisation can help
Your training organisation can support you directly by:
- testing your English (literacy), Maths (numeracy) and digital skills at the start to see if you need help
- adjusting their training methods to suit your needs
- offering you targeted learning support.
How your employer can help
Your employer can support you directly by adjusting their workplace to suit your learning needs.
How your school can help
If you are a school-based apprentice or trainee with learning difficulties, you should already be getting support from your school with English and Maths.
Your school is jointly responsible for working with your training organisation to support your training.
