Becoming a school teacher

There are many pathways to become a teacher in Queensland, and enrolling in an approved initial teacher education program is the first step.
To teach in a Queensland state school, you must:
- have a teaching qualification
- hold teacher registration with the Queensland College of Teachers (QCT), and
- meet the mandatory requirements for teacher eligibility.
To apply to become a teacher, submit an application for teacher employment form to the department's teacher applicant centre and search to apply for current vacancies.
