VET in Schools (VETiS)
VET (vocational education and training) is learning which is directly related to work. Qualifications are developed by industry to give people the knowledge and skills they need to work in a particular job.
Certificate I and II level qualifications can be undertaken in Years 10, 11 or 12 to get you on track for your future career.
You can undertake a qualification at school:
- as part of your school studies – delivered and resourced by a school that is also registered as a training provider
- by enrolling with an external training provider
- as a school-based apprentice or trainee.
The Department of Trade, Employment and Training funds some training providers—known as Skills Assure Suppliers—to deliver free or reduced-cost training and assessment services to school students through:
- certificate training – supports students in Years 10, 11 and 12
- school-based apprenticeships and traineeships.
Students at participating schools can also experience a range of industries through the Gateway to Industry Schools program.
Talk to your school's guidance officer, career counsellor, vocational education coordinator or head of senior schooling about the program or qualification that is right for your future career goals.
