Fire safety
Smoke alarms
The law requires that all homes and units throughout Queensland to be fitted with smoke alarms. Queensland Fire & Emergency Services recommends all residential properties be fitted with photoelectric smoke alarms.
Fire permits
In Queensland, it is illegal to light a fire in the open without a permit. Lighting fires can also be restricted by fire danger periods, local fire bans and state of fire emergency bans.
Fire safety
When it comes to keeping your home and family safe from fires, whether they are house fires or bush fires, prevention is key.
Fire Bans & Restrictions
In Queensland, the use of fire can be restricted by imposing either a Local Fire Ban or a State of Fire Emergency.
Building in a bushfire prone area
There is no one answer for protecting buildings against fire attack, rather a combination of methods is the best defence.
Bushfire Safety
You don't have to live in the bush to be threatened by bushfires. All Queenslanders should be familiar with Bushfire Alerts, the Fire Danger Rating System and how to prepare your property and family.
