Waterways
Queensland has many different types of waterways, including creeks, streams, rivers, lakes, wetlands and estuaries. These waterways are important to Queensland’s economy, and for the many recreational benefits they provide.
The continued health of Queensland’s waterways is vital. Maintenance of water quality, aquatic biodiversity and habitats is critical for ecological, economic and social wellbeing.
We monitor ecosystem health in rivers, estuaries and coastal areas throughout Queensland, and regulate industries through licensing waste outputs into waterways.
