Proposal
To name a newly discovered undersea geographical feature Monument Reef as shown on Proposal Plan QPN1425.
Local government area
Cook Shire (the geographic feature is not located within a local government area; however, Cook Shire is the closest).
Additional information
The proposal was suggested by James Cook University, choosing the name Monument Reef to represent the towering limestone monolith that rises high up from a deep-sea platform that extends out from the edge of the northern Great Barrier Reef. The reef is the first detached reef identified in the Great Barrier Reef area in over 120 years.
