Online reporting requirements

Online record keeping replaces the previous hardcopy movement advice and record book requirements. Licence holders will be able to use the online system once they register with Online Services and move to a Standard, Specialised or Advanced licence.

The online system will provide real time data and improve the department’s ability to monitor and enforce licensing requirements and make it easier for licence holders to record births, deaths and trades.

The completion of online records is required within 72 hours of a trade event (such as a buy/sell/giveaway/accept), or other events such as the birth, death or movement of a licenced animal. Notification will be required within 24 hours of an event that exceeds your approval for breeding, or numbers of animals kept (including excess dangerous snakes).

If accessing or using the online system poses unnecessary hardship, licence holders can apply to DES for an exemption, to continue keeping their records in hard copy record books. These licence holders will also need to submit regular Return of Operations forms (annually for Standard licence holders, and every three months for Specialised and Advanced licence holders).

Only buy native wildlife from licensed sellers

Before you buy check the following:

  • ask the seller for a copy of their licence
  • check the expiry date to make sure it’s still current.
  • only purchase native animals from a swap or marketplace website that’s regulated.

If you buy a native animal from an unlicensed seller, the animal you purchase could be seized.
