Mobile Women's Health Service
The Mobile Women's Health Service is made up of specially trained registered nurses based throughout Queensland who provide a free and confidential service for Queensland women. The service aims to improve the health and wellbeing of women in rural and remote areas of Queensland.
The service visits over 200 rural and remote communities in Queensland and services a 300 - 500km radius from base locations to provide clinics and other services on a regular basis.
The service supports all women, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and those from multicultural backgrounds. In some areas an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women's health worker assists the nurse in meeting the needs of local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women.
Services
The service provides a range of clinical health services, support, health promotion and education on a range of topics for women including:
- cervical screening (cervical screening test)
- breast care
- sexual health screening
- family planning and contraception
- menopause and hormone replacement information
- osteoporosis
- bladder problems
- period concerns
- sexuality concerns
- puberty
- domestic violence and sexual assault
- healthy lifestyles including nutrition, weight and stress management.
The service complements and works with other health services including:
- local general practitioners
- outreach gynaecology specialists
- the Royal Flying Doctor Service
allied health staff.
