How to access the Queensland Pelvic Mesh Service
Access to the Queensland Pelvic Mesh Service (QPMS) is by referral from your general Practitioner (GP). When your referral is received, a clinical nurse consultant (CNC) from the service will contact you to help understand your needs and will talk through what to expect at your appointment and answer your questions. You will also be sent a letter with this information and an introduction to the service.
More information is available for clinicians referring to the QPMS.
Eligibility
The service will be offered to women who meet all the following criteria:
- have had vaginally or abdominally placed mesh products for treatment of vaginal prolapse or urinary incontinence
- are current residents in the state of Queensland or had mesh products for treatment of vaginal prolapse or urinary incontinence performed in the state of Queensland. Referrals from the usual GCHHS catchment areas will also be accepted
- the patient’s quality of life is adversely affected by mesh and mesh-related issues
- the patient is willing to participate in further assessment within a multidisciplinary team service.
Accessing your medical records
We may require access to your medical records to confirm the presence and type of pelvic mesh products you have. Queensland Health has strict privacy policies protecting collection and access to health information.
So we can understand your previous medical and surgery history, we will ask for your consent to access your medical records from other hospitals. If you agree, the CNC will send you a form to sign, which will give permission to the QPMS to access your medical records prior to your appointments.
If you have already accessed your medical records from your treating hospital, please let us know. This will help in assessing your needs and care requirements within the QPMS.
